His name was Derrick.

His life was not hard and held no scrabble. Aside from intermittent family game nights in his parents’ 14-bedroom Georgia mansion. Truth was he lived a life of serendipity. His mother a former lady-of-the-night who landed a benevolent man spoiled by the riches of old Southern money.

Derrick had the world by the heels, able to lift it and shake it whenever he pleased. Up until the market crash of 2008, punctuated by his father’s death in 2009. When the money rushed out in chutes to taxes and creditors who subsumed their estate in 2010.

The world turned unkind and his mother Fancy refused to return to whoring. For once Derrick would have to rely on Derrick. With no choice, no skills and nothing but canned beans on his plate, Derrick worked on his body, then sold his body to the night.
